I was in the unenviable position to see trans discrimination firsthand the other day when a prospective customer wanted his computer fixed. All was good until the customer came in to the workshop to see that the technician is a trans woman, the customer then began to find all sorts of reasons not to leave the computer to be repaired and ended up leaving without the work being done.
This sort of thing happens far too often. This is not an issue for the employee but for the customer.
Claremont Goulet Consultancy as facilitators and advocates strive to enlighten by fighting stigma, bigotry, mis-information, the lack of information and long held beliefs & ideas that are out dated and have been scientifically disproven.
What can businesses and organisations do to encourage customers to be more inclusive?
Hiding your best out the back is not the answer.
What can be done is sponsor and send your employees to LGBTI+ and in particular transgender events, forums etc. showing that your organisation is actively inclusive and diverse will give your organisation greater social standing attracting and keeping more customers.
Consider awareness training that we provide. If you feel your organisation is not ready for awareness training but want to start being more inclusive, we can conduct an audit of your systems and processes, provide a report on how to get started.
