Sunday the 31st of March is the International Day of Transgender Visibility.
It is a day of celebration for transgender women and men in society by way of visibility by having a morning tea with an information session or Friday or Monday.
A day where we lead the way by being inclusive of all and in a very visible way.
Transgender men and women are often misunderstood and feared through ignorance.
30 years ago, the same reaction now given to the transgender community was being given to the gay and lesbian community. Now, we are experiencing those same fears, those same issues.
Yes, the gay and lesbian community are mostly accepted widely within the wider community.
We should not have to wait 30 years. Neither should anybody.
Discrimination based on any reason is discrimination and is unjust, unfair, and put simply, illegal.
Race, ability, colour, sexuality, gender, faith and culture give no reason for some to express their unjust opinion of themselves as a better human than others.
Equality applies to everybody, not a select few and it does not cost anything.
The transgender men and women in society take on many shapes and sizes, like the rest of the wider community, we pay bills, we pay tax, we drive cars, we have families, we work, we study and you have probably met a few that you did not even know were transgender.
We pose no threat, we simply wish to exist as equal in todays society.
